Andhra Pradesh Pitching for Exclusive IT Zone - ITIR

Published & Updated as on - 2010-05-21

The state is pitching for developing the first-ever Information Technology Investment Region (ITIR) in the country in an area of 202 sq km that would create about 15 lakh direct and 53 lakh indirect jobs.

The region comprises areas such as Cyberabad Development Authority (CDA), including Gachibowli and Madhapur; Hyderabad Airport Development Authority (Hada) including Mamidipalli, Raviryal, Adibatla and Maheswaram; Uppal and Pocharam, to provide conducive business environment, transparent investor-friendly policy and excellent infrastructure for the growth of IT, ITeS and Electronic Hardware Manufacturing (EHM) units.

These areas will have selfcontained townships with roads, rail, metro, power, water and drainage, residential, commercial and social infrastructure that would reduce burden on the existing urban infrastructure.

Chief minister K Rosaiah, who reviewed the functioning of IT&C department with IT minister K Venkat Reddy, principal secretary Sameer Sharma and senior officials on Wednesday, was informed that all industrial promotion schemes and incentives offered by the state and central government would be made available to companies establishing their operations in the ITIR region. Subjects like egovernance, IT promotion and other initiatives of the department were discussed at length during the meeting. A detailed proposal would be sent to the Centre soon on the subject, officials said.

Officials said the ICT policy for 2010-2015 would be released shortly as the government was in constant interaction with the captains of various verticals of IT/ITES sector in framing the new policy.

The chief minister was informed that the ITIR region would help in achieving balanced regional and socio-economic development of the state. They said locations like Visakhapatnam, Warangal, Tirupati, Kakinada, Kadapa and Kurnool were being promoted as major IT hubs in the near future and special impetus would be given to IT companies shifting to these locations to set up their operations.
