Published & Updated as on - 2010-06-13

Hyderabad, June 6: In a bid to instill confidence among investors, the state government will soon host two major international events in the city.

The Biotechnology Industry Organisation (BIO), an umbrella organisation for 1,200 bio-technology companies across the world, has agreed to hold its two-day international partnering conference from September 21. It is for the first time that the annual BIO partnership summit will be held in India.

In another development, the Confederation of Indian Industry has informed the Chief Minister, Mr K. Rosaiah, that it will hold global investors summit in the city on November 22 and 23. Though the city was scheduled to hold the summit a few months ago, the Centre shifted the venue to Chennai due to disturbances in the city.

Explaining the advantages of the summit, the BIO executive vice-president, Mr Alan F. Eisenberg, said it would provide a chance to feature India’s world class biopharma industry, to rest of the world.

“The focus will be on promoting the state-built modern bio facility Genome valley,” said the HMDA commissioner, Mr B.P. Acharya, who is coordinating with the BIO for the event.

Meanwhile, Mr Rosaiah directed officials to study the possibilities of setting up a southern industrial corridor on the lines of Delhi-Mumbai Industrial development Corridor which will span from Bengaluru to Chennai, covering parts of the state and try to take advantage out of Krishna-Godavari basin.
