MHADA plans to sell 4,000 homes

Published & Updated as on - 2010-02-18

The Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (Mhada) plans to bring out around 4,000 homes every year from the earlier count of 3,863 homes.

“We will keep on selling 3,000 to 4,000 flats every year like the way we have opened the sale of 3,863 flats across Mumbai for different income groups,” said Mr H.K. Jawle, chief officer of the Mumbai housing board of Mhada.

The creation of such a huge housing stock so that continuous supply of tenements could be offered requires huge tracts of land, which the Mhada hopes to get in the near future from the state government.

The Urban Land Ceiling and Regulation Act (ULCRA) has already been repealed by the state government. “We had already written to the state government in August 2008 to hand over the ULCRA land which can be used for building of additional housing stock for Mumbaikars,” said Mr Amarjeet Singh Mahhas, chairman of the Mumbai board of Mhada. However, the state government is yet to give land to the Mhada.
